Legend Oaks Northwest is a 125-bed skilled nursing facility located off West Road and Beltway 8 in Jersey Village. Our facility is special for a lot of reasons but one of the most important reasons is because we really consider the residents as our family. During the current pandemic, our larger community has faced many challenges; however, our resident community has experienced hardship as well. During this difficult time, and in response to the directive we received from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, we have been required to restrict visitation to the facility – in an effort to protect the residents and staff from any unnecessary exposure, only essential medical personnel and end of life visitors are allowed.

Following this guidance means family members and friends are not allowed in the facility. Usually, in a non-COVID19 environment, the facility is full of family members and friends who are there to spend time with the residents This visitation is important, and we actively promote and facilitate it on our residents’ behalf.  Halting visitation during this pandemic, while understandable, has been difficult.

In an effort to connect our residents and their families while still complying with the instructions we have received from CMS and State/local authorities relative to visitation, we decided to initiate a “parade” where friends, family, and community members have the opportunity to slowly drive around the facility while holding signs and sharing with their loved ones how much they care about them. The theme for the parade is “We may be apart, but we’re in this together!” On Friday April 17, 2020 at 2PM, our residents will be outside, adhering to social distancing standards and following general safety precautions, to be a part of this experience.  Our staff will be present to supervise and ensure that infection prevention protocols are being followed and that our residents’ needs are met.

We hope this is a time where we can all come together and show the residents of Legend Oaks Northwest how much they are loved and respected. The Facility is a special place, full of extraordinary residents and dedicated staff, and supported by caring and involved families and friends.  Setting up this event for our resident community is one more example of how we balance quality of care with quality of life, while remaining free from COVID-19.
